I have a network share drive and every day I have these random folders that keep appearing in it. They are named the day, month, date, and year but only the months of January and February. The folders are created at random times, and when I check the owner/creator of the folder they are only created by 2 users. I check both of their computers for any malware/spyware and virus, but could find nothing. I don't know if a program is creating the folders. The two users run the same software as everyone else in the company. If there any way to tell how these folders are being created?

There is no scanner or network scanner, plus some of the files were created today but have a January date as their name. Also there are no files in any of the folders that are created. This place is a law firm so I don't know if there is a piece of software that could be doing this.

The folders are located on the server in a shared folder called data, from in that in a folder called clients, in there is where the random folders are being created.

It's hard to really say what can be causing this, there's a lot of possibilities. I've seen this occur at a couple of businesses and it has been different each time. In one situation, as mentioned above, it was a temporary folder being created when a user imported pictures from a scanner or a camera. The folder was automatically created when the software that did the importing opened up, but the user would change the destination folder to something else so no files actually went into that folder.

Another time there was a backup application that had been installed on one of the computers in the network. The computer was creating the folder automatically as part of its backup, but for some reason the actual backup would not run, so it left only a folder there with a hidden temp data file or log file.

So an update, I figured it out, it was a user changing setting in their Amcius software for default email attachment saved location.

But thank to both of you for you help.

well this something that I haven't experienced before. According to my own personal experience I was suffering with auto created folders in my smartphone and tablet however, which was resolved by the use of a licensed antivurs.
