Looking for the guidance that would allow one to program a router so that it acts as a receiver. The user could then use a wired port and connect a desktop.

Have a Westell Modem/Router Model A90-750015-07 Rev "W" and write to inquire if this device would be suitable. Also have a Linksys WRV-200.

Much thanks in advance for an informed reply

Sounds like what you want to do is turn a router into a wireless bridge. That is you want to hookup a device to the Ethernet port of the router to give it access to a wireless network right? If so then this thread may help you. the answer seems to be at the bottom.

Poor choice of words in the title, but let's see where this goes.

A router is already a receiver/transmitter. It can get a signal from one source (a modem?), and then transmit that signal to a target (a PC?).

What are you actually trying to do?

I think the OP wants to use a router like a [strike]access point[/strike] wireless bridge (thanks to my esteemed colleagues below). Many routers can be configured to operate in such a mode. I used a Linksys WRT54GL (w/ Tomato firmware) to do this when I needed more power to connect one system more reliably at my house (before running wire).

mnewsome, are you trying to connect one (or more) system(s) to the reconfigured router so that they can all connect to your home network via a wireless connection? Keep in mind that you still need the original router in place to do this.
