Hi guys I am always on here looking at the OP post. Here is my deal. I built a new PC about a year ago. Asus Sabertooth 990fx R2 with an FX8320 16GB 1600Mhz kingston hyperX ram and 2 7850's (2GB each) in crossfire. I Currently have my 8320 OCed at 4.5Ghz stable. I would like to know what you guys think about the I7 4770k with the Asus maximus extreme 6 MoBo. Only reason I want to upgrade is because I like the speed the Intel chips have to offer. Money isnt an issue as I work in IT for a company that pays me well for my services. So my question is would you upgrade if you like to over clock? I will also be ugrading my GPU's to 2xGTX 780 Ti.

Solution
The i7-4770k would be a good upgrade over the FX-8320 and the Asus maximus 6 board is a very expensive one , you can get a lower priced board unless you just want that board. If cost is not a concern then you can opt for a different CPU and motherboard.

One that you can look at that you can consider is the LGA 2011 socket and get a six core Intel CPU i7-4930k or i7-4960x.

if i were you i would go with intel because there cpu's are the best yes of course 4770k will beat fx 8320 oh and its not important to change those 2 7850's although gtx 780ti is more powerful than the 7850 its really you're choice oh that motherboard is definetly good so for me get the 4770k with (OPTIONAL) if you want alot more performance get sli gtx 780ti

whats your main purpose of build? If your current build isn't providing you enough for your needs, only then it would be recommended that you upgrade to next level. Of course, Asus Maximus VI Extreme is the best board out there, intel i7 4770k and Gtx 780ti being the top class performance products in the market. Still, depends what you want from your pc and isn't your current pc providing you enough?

Well I was looking at the 4770k because I've read the 4th gen haswell chips run cooler. I didnt know that the socket 2011 had an unlocked I7 yet might look into that. What board would you recommend witha 4990k if im lookiing to do some overclocking on it. I like sqeuzing every possible Hz out of my systems. And currently I've been using the H100i cooler but I am going to do the next build a Full blown custom loop.

Not a good purpose at all I'll be honest. I'm a geek at heart and I like having awesome builds. I do gaming and home video editing on my current build. I guess I just want the best I can build. And like I said I have the budget and the wife never gets on me when it comes to my computers. I am looking to try and build over the next week or two and will most likely sell my current system for cheap to someone local.

there will be always something better than what you currently have. The time you are not getting your needs or performance fulfilled, then is the right time you start looking for next pc. So it depends on you if are really ready for next build or stay with current for like some months. The parts you have specified for your next build are overkill for any application or game you are trying to work with. Anyhow good luck if you are taking next step :D

Save your money and put on some other components by getting Maximus VI Hero. Just read the both motherboard Specs, and then decide if you are really going to use all those features? Another board you might wana take a look at is Maximus VI Rampage. All Rog motherboard are the best quality boards and overclocking on Hero mobo will also be same as on Extreme.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I think for now I will just look around and if I really want to do it just jump the gun. Who knows my 8 month old daughter might enjoy having my current System lol. Thanks again.

There currently is no 4990k , there is a 4930k and a 4960x. With either CPU I would go with the Asus Rmpage IV Extreme or the Extreme Black Edition the overclocking options with those boards are extreme and you have every option available to get the last bit of clock from the CPU. Plus it has an attachment that lets you do real time overclocking while in Windows. The extra added feature of the LGA 2011 socket is the 40 lanes of Pci-e bandwidth that allows you to have two video cards get 16 lanes each and a third get 8 lanes. You can't get that on a 1150 socket motherboard without the addition of a specialized chip.
