Gateway laptop stop working

I have a gateway laptop turned it off last night woke this morning turned it on and after the "gateway" screen it says disk read error press ctl alt del to restart. Did that same thing happened. My brother suggested alt f10 and run the recovery managment. Did that got 60% then error code 0x45d WINApply Image cannot apply image I/O device error. Not sure what to do. This laptop was a gift no cds included.

Try to run it in Safe mode and see if you can get into the windows.
To get into safe mode press F8 repeatedly when you switch on the computer and then you should get an option to access in safe mode.

Sounds like the hard drive is bad. If the system is under warranty, contact Gateway. If it''s out of warranty, you need to buy a new hard-drive then install Windows, either get a system restore disk set from Gateway, or download the ISO here http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_install/cannot-find-digital-river-download-site/66a8439b-0d16-4b70-92f7-1c8486a46ebf

You probably need the Home version, check the Windows key on the laptop for version.
