I don't get this. Forgive me for being rather noob.

I've got an amd athlon II x4 760k which is meant to run at 3.8ghz but cpu-z, speccy etc all indicate that the stock core speed is 3.3Ghz. Windows system information says its 3.29 Ghz.

Am I mistaken or is there something wrong here? Could anyone help me out please?

That might be the default clock, and it might turbo to 3.8GHz.

Which motherboard do you have, and which BIOS version? It's possible there's an incompatibility.

First I'd run prime95 smallFFT test and look in CPU-Z: as long as the clock speed at that point is a stable 3800MHz then it's fine.

Dear JOOK-D, thanks for your answer. I've got an ASRock FM2A88X Extreme4+ Socket FM2+ motherboard with BIOS version P1.40.

x4 760k seems to be an fm2 processor, I don't know if that would cause problems with an fm2+ mobo.

I am running a smallFFT test right now but cpu-z still indicates a clock rate of approximately 3.3Ghz.
Any suggestions?

Boost frequency multiplier needs to be set to X41 (4.1ghz) and cpu multiplier to X38 (3.8ghz). auto should set it automaticall to correct values

Yea I just changed to auto for a try, it now says 3.79 Ghz in Windows so that's ok :) I did not dare to change it manually before because I thought I would be oc'ing by putting it to x38, but auto gives x38 so I was wrong there.
I don't know why it was on x33 anyway but i'm glad it's fixed. Thanks for your help guys!

However, cpu-z now indicates a speed of ~ 4Ghz with a x40 multiplier.. I guess that must be the turbo? Since that should be 4.1Ghz: http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Bulldozer/AMD-Athlon%20X4%20760K%20-%20AD760KWOA44HL%20-%20AD760KWOHLBOX.html
