I have 2 hard drives in my computer, I want to copy my win xp onto my second drive. What do I have to copy to do that?

Solution
No, you can't do that. You can install your WindowsXP to a second PC using the install disk ONLY if the first PC is no longer being used. Depending upon what version of WindowsXP you have, you might not even be able to that. (OEM version versus retail.)

Your license is only good for one computer. It would be illegal to install it on two computers. Not to mention, Microsoft wouldn't allow you to register it, so it wouldn't work.

Best bet is to purchase a new copy of Windows for the second machine. Preferably Windows 7. It's a much better OS than WinXP.

Good luck!

It is a little complicated. You didn't specify WHY you want to copy to the second drive. Do you just want a back up? Are you moving your WINXP to a bigger hard drive? Are you planning on keeping both drives in the machine? Are you planning on booting the computer from the second drive?

What you need to do is copy the disk image. There are a number of free programs that will do this. Clonezilla, for example will do it. http://clonezilla.org/ This copies the entire contents of one drive to another.

The second drive must be larger than the first drive in order to copy the image. Be forewarned, copying an image to the new drive will erase whatever data exists on the new drive. You will end up with two hard drives with the exact same data.

Good luck!
