I've been a Mac guy for years and am saying good-bye to paying for the name so please excuse my ignorance in building from parts.
I have Ram , a hard drive and a tower so these are what I've gathered to form the rest. I also would prefer Linux over Windows as the OS, I only can guess that this will be penguin ready.

Motherboard : asrock 970 Extreme3 R2.0
Processor : AMD 4130 Zambezi Quad Core
Video Card: PowerColor TurboDuoAXR9 280x
Power Supply : Kingwin ABT 750MM
750 W crossfire ready.

I'd greatly appreciate the assistance in telling me if I've got parts that work together ! My concerns are that I will buy a part that won't work with another part like the Video Card not working or the cpu not having the correct socket on the motherboard. I'm good with assembly and disassembly

Edit.
I am in Canada so it's very difficult to get parts from the USA without problems with Duty at border.

i would definitely recommend you pay $20 more and get amd fx 6300 instead and get different mobo because you might need to update your bios with that mobo and definitely change your psu to seasonic, xfx or corsair as kingwin is not a well known psu maker. Also 750w is overkill for you system you can go for 600w. here is the parts i would personally pick

Here is a better build with a bit more power and a full build. Should run most games maxed out at 1080p at a good framerate. One issue - Linux doesn't really have that many games. Most are made and optimized for Windows 8. Everything here is compatible and works together perfectly. If you need help putting together the computer, you can ask me for help.
