AMD Auto-Tune OC never completes.

Hi all,

Important specs:
ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 m/b, AMD FX-6300 CPU, Zalman CNPS5X Performa cooler. (+Win 7 home prem 64bit)

I have recently been trying to overclock my cpu using AMD catalyst/overdrive. In overdrive, there is an option for 'auto tune' that automatically tests different cpu frequencies. I have been trying to run that auto tune several times but seems I have encountered an issue.

Basically, while its running, I use AI suite to monitor temp. When auto-tune puts load on my cpu, the temperature rises and when it reaches 70 C, my system automatically shuts off, meaning the auto tune doesn't complete. Is there a way to increase this 'auto shut down' threshold or maybe to run the auto tune differently?? What should I do? Do I need a liquid cooler to achieve the autotune??

Thanks so much.

And that is why none of the software oc'ers out there are good for ocing. It is always best to do it manually as you can stay within the threshold of the temperature and increasing your clock a bit by bit, whereas the software takes one avg cpu and overclocks based on that cpu and since not every cpu is made the same the software doesn't suceeds in ocing properly

when it reboots, it is still at normal (not oc) frequency of 3.6ghz, but the temperature starts to go up rapidly.

It might be doing so, but why do I need to bother; since its AUTO- tune, it should be able to handle the operation by itself AUTOMATICALLY right?

I didn't think overdrive changes the voltage but I could be wrong, I haven't used it in a while and what you are experiencing could prove that actually. My experience using overdrive/catalyst is that it keeps testing frequencies until it reachs an unstable frequency and PC reboots. Sometimes it reboots to the stock frequency that is why I asked what frequency does it reach before the computer crashes.

There you go,your relying on the software way too much that it is actually bumping up the vcore voltage by alot which is increasing the temperature and your cooling cannot cool it down enough hence the shutdown. This is the only logical reason here.
Download hw monitor and run prime95 for 5-10mins and report your vcore and cpu core temperature along with the socket temperature

ok will do. Should I do that WHILE running auto-tune?

Ok guys,

Forget that problem----- I bought a Corsair H60 and its great. It fixed the prob with the auto tune not completing and now I can do auto tune just fine.

Now the thing is, after doing/ completing auto tune, when you get to USE the new frequencies in amd cpu overdrive, as soon as I enable overdrive, windows aero is disabled and everything looks like it did without drivers! :(

any ideas???

thanks.
