On my acer espire laptop I have MSE protecting my system. It's supposed to run a periodic full scan by itself at a set time. I set this time when I think I'm not going to be using my computer, but it doesn't run the scan at the time I set and I get the orange indication saying I have not run a scan lately and my computer is potentially unprotected so then I have to open the security program and manually run a full scan. Why is it not running the scan at the set time like it's supposed to? I thought setting a time for it to run a full scan it's supposed to turn on and run the scan by itself. When I'm not using my computer I shut it off and I thought the security program is supposed to turn on the computer, run the full scan and then shut off. Am I doing doing something wrong? I don't thing I'm supposed to leave my computer on all the time just for it to run a security scan when it's supposed to. How do I fix this.

Solution
-it can power up the computer from a sleep state (low power mode)

-many laptops are set to go to sleep, then after a timeout they go into hibernation mode, where it makes a copy of the memory to the hard drive and just powers down.

-often there will be a BIOS setting in the you can use to power up the machine based upon the real time clock. look for a BIOS setting in power management wake settings for wake by RTC and have your clock wake your computer to boot at a particular time.
