Case: Rosewill Blackhawk
Mobo: Asrock 970 Extreme4

Despite the mobo manual saying and I quote, "CHA_FAN1/2/3 fan speed can be controlled through UEFI or AXTU", I cannot control them through either UEFI or AXTU. I have tried through automatic mode (even though I'm using three pin plugs) and manual mode, but I have not noticed any change in fan speed at all. The cpu fan I can control at least. I have one other fan in the pwr fan connection, so it is understandable I can't control that one. It'd be nice to quiet down my system some if I can. Is there something I am doing wrong?

Solution
the fans must be 4 pin pwm fans to control via software, and even that is difficult to do (you can only set what speed it goes based on cpu temps)

controlling fans via software is a tough thing to do. why else do you think there are so many fan controller modules on the market :p software just does a poor job of controlling fans (especially anything other than cpu fans)

This is where I have trouble, because it seems like it's always 50/50 with these answers. I have also heard you don't need 4pin pwm from other people. Even if what you say is true, why would my manual say that cha fan1/2/3 (which are three pin on the mobo) can be controlled?

No disrespect to you fyi. I'm 99-100 percent sure you are much more knowledgable than me with computers, but it is mildly frustrating hearing two different things :p

I have also tried that. I have tried manual and automatic. Meh. Idk. I'll just fiddle with it.
