PCI-E Power Issues - 5770

Recently dug out my old PC and tried to fire it up.

It was working as of July last year. But when I started it up the GPU fan came on at 100% and there's no video signal being passed to the monitor.
I suspect GPU has gone to heaven but anyone got any ideas? I've tried different 6-Pin connectors and another PSU. I reckon the 6-Pin connector on the card has died or something along those lines.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

If you've already tried to re-seat the GPU card (cleaning any dust in the PCI-E slot in the process) and still nothing, you could give it a last try by taking the mobo out of the case and testing it on a cardboard box, there could be some grounding issue.

Yeh - don't really want to shell out a few hundred notes on a new GPU if I still have the problem after. Hmmm...

Tested it outside the case. Still the same thing. The behaviour of the graphics card is the same as when the 6 pin PCIE power isn't connected on a working card.

Must be a dead card then?

Yeh. Tested it in my current setup and it worked fine.

Must be PSU or Mobo... It was working fine until I got it shipped to my new address.

Do you hear any beeps during POST?
Check the battery on the mobo and clear the CMOS.
Are any of the caps on the card/mobo/psu bulking at the top, no brown/yellow goo squeezing out?
If you have a multimeter measure the voltages at the main mobo connector, consult the manual for the wires (3.3; 5 and 12V)

edit
make sure all the cables are properly plugged in, they might have come loose during transport

No beeps on POST.
Cleared the CMOS on the jumper, resat the battery. Would a faulty battery cause this?

Checked caps and they're all fine, there was a bit of gunk on the old GPU PCI-E 6 pin connector caps but replaced the whole card now.

Haven't checked the RAM, its 2x2GB... worth a try with just one stick on?

Resat all the cables too, completely took apart the setup and rebuilt it just to make sure. Get a detection of input signal when it first starts, then no signal.

Another point I forget to mention, when I first got it on after it arrived - it powered up and then just kept powering on and off repeatedly, but the GPU fan was normal. Rebuilt it and the power issues fixed but then the GPU issue started.

No beeps without the GPU. It doesn't seem like it's even booting up through POST etc anyway. The HDD spins up, but it stays at full load (according to the LED). Also once you turn it on, the case power switch doesn't cut the power at all, even when held for a long time. You have to power it off at the PSU. If you just flick the PSU switch off, then turn it on a few seconds later the computer comes straight back on in the same state. It's only when you remove the kettle lead that it fully resets.

ok, it is either the psu or less likely the mobo. If you could measure the voltages it would be really usefull :)
The 12V might be fine with the fans running but the lesser voltages are still needed for other stuff.
Or swap the psu from your current rig...

well you've tested everything else so it has to be the mobo... that's unfortunate :/
