Hey all, I have a macbook pro that has had a dead logic board for a while now. I got it in 2011, the year when the macbook pro's all had a problem with logic boards dying. Its way past warranty time, so I would like to take a crack at fixing it, rather than buying a new laptop. My idea was to purchase a later model macbook pro with a broken screen or something like that,on ebay, and replace the screen with my old one and vuala, working macbook pro...am I horribly misinformed? Also, I know buying a new one would be easier, but Im interested in trying to revive my old mac!

you can get all the data from the old mac via taking out the hard-drive, but fixing it will be an endeavor that unless you are well versed in computers and hardware, will likely end up costing you much more time and money than it is actually worth, not to mention if a macbook pro has a broken screen, what else do you think may be broken on it. just way too much room for error on this and while you are not misinformed, you are highly underestimating the monetary risk

I was warned against replacing the logic board, but Ive installed cpu coolers and built my own pc so I think I can do it if it was worth it. Can I get a logic board thats affordable, and of a newer generation thats not gonna fail on me?
