I am considering purchasing an ASUS G750JW from the Futureshop in my city in Canada

But before I do I thought that I would consult those more knowledgeable than me on the subject. I am just wondering if there are any laptops at the same price with similar specs or what the desktop equivalent would include or cost.

I think I have just been researching too long that I have become biased towards this laptop so any info or suggestions anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated!

I actually purchased one yesterday and I like it so far. I bought it for mobility, realizing that gaming wouldn't be equivalent to my desktop in anyway in terms of graphics. Its smooth, quiet and responsive.

I have two issues, though. One being the battery indicator is showing 88%...its been on a charger for over 12 hours. It is still at 88% and I haven't found a fix on that or a probable cause. The second issue is a stuck or dead pixel. Since I bought this at my local Best Buy, I'm very tempted to return it today for those two issues.

Its too bad that you had problems like that but thanks for the insight, I have a question though, from what I have read people have said it is too heavy and personally I don't think that would really be problem but I was just wondering what you thought of the weight.

The weight doesn't bother me. It weighs 10 pounds, so yea, it is heavy. I haven't had one but for a few days now. I exchanged fora new one today and I have what I suspect to be motherboard issues now. Its getting real annoying.

Asus is an amazing brand, but I'm getting discouraged now.

The more I look into it the more I am leaning towards just getting a desktop, I think I just have to re-evaluate how crucial portability is for me and having the ability to upgrade would be nice. Probably just going to get like a gtx 660 and some other kind of meh desktop parts and save some money.

If you want a pc primarily for gaming, I would build a desktop. You'll get tons more power for less money, plus adding on and upgrading won't be a hassle. Video card wise, I'd go with the 700 series. If you're wanting a low budget build, look at the 750ti or 760.

I meant to update you on my experience as well. I had two faulty G750jw models in a row. First time was battery and screen issues and the second was faulty hardware, Ram and Mobo. I'm not saying Asus makes bad products because I have yet to see many bad reviews on this particular laptop or on Asus in general. I love the few Asus branded products I have now and haven't had a problem with them after 2 years of use. I think I just got unlucky.

Again, if you don't plan on being mobile most of the time, I'd build a desktop. You will spend less money for more power in comparison to a laptop. You can upgrade later on for the most part. If something breaks, you won't have to send the whole unit like you would a laptop. I own a powerful desktop and am looking for a laptop. I can promise you will benefit much more from a desktop unless mobility is needed.
