When you say 64bit computer, what exactly are u referring to? The OS?

To answer your title question... You cant use 64bit applications on a 32 bit OS. You can however use 32 and 64 bit apps on a 64bit OS.

Cheers

Hey Chikhar - the 64 I was referring to is the windows 7 OS

I am trying to open up a file (video or read) on my windows 7 64bit OS................. and this error message keeps coming up.

c:\Users\Gateway\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Tempoary Internet Files\Content.IE5\OVV2MURB\Aniks-Secret-Drawer (1).zip is not a valid Win32 applicatioin

My sister has a windows xp 32bit OS and all the files I can't open up on my computer - I can open on her computer.

Since she has a 32bit OS and the error says not a valid Win32 - I just ASSUMED the file had something to do with 32 bits...............but I could be way off. All I know is - I can't open the file.

I googled the problem. they said clean up your computer. I did. Or they would say I need a particular player or reader and I downloaded their suggestions - and still nothing.

They also said the same thing you said. But they did say you could run a 32 app on a 64 app. I was trying to find out what kind of app the files I am trying to view are - but I can't find that info.

I am totally confused as to what is happening. thanks for your input. If you have any other suggestion, please lay them on to me.

Whatever your PC uses to unzip (Assuming its a 3rd party application). Uninstall that application and re-install. Other possibilities include the ZIP archive being corrupt. Also may be a virus, try scanning the file with your anti-virus.

---c:\Users\Gateway\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Tempoary Internet Files\Content.IE5\OVV2MURB\Aniks-Secret-Drawer (1).zip--- here no user data resides. You got it from internet and it has probably got you a malware too.

I'll scan the file for any viruses. But I am not sure I understand the connection between uninstalling and installing the application and what my PC is using to unzip.

Just to give you a clearer picture. Both downloads are coming from the one website I am taking courses from. Once on the website - I download numerous files...both video and documents. So I am not sure what the applications - if any.

I looked up the properties of both files............they were both Doc. (1 a jpeg image the other a png image) and both hyper text protocol. When I viewed the source of both - it was a bunch of html coding - which I didn't understand.

I will scan the files and give you the outcome. thanks again - chikbar

OP, your computer, for whatever reason, is attempting to execute your secret drawer archive as a binary image like the Zip file itself is a program. Something has been playing with your registry settings and has now assigned the 'open with' defaults so that Windows treats .zip files as .exe files.

Your simplest solution is to run an antivirus, and when that is completed and the offender has been removed, install a program like winzip, and assign all zip files to open with it in the installer. When that is done, you can go back to opening zip files normally.

When you install most Zip programs, they reset what Windows opens zip's with by default. This will remove the error message you are receiving. you can then use the right click > Open with... dialog box to select your old program if you wish.

OP means original post / original poster.

Haha, it means Original Poster. It's basically used when you are answering the original thread posting rather than continuing the line of conversation and/or replying to the last post.
