My wife was trying to set up a mp3 player for her mother to take on a road trip. In it's instructions it told her to format the mp3 players drive first, but she accidentally formatted the external harddrive(which has the music on it, so sorry MIL, you're listening to the radio).

She was smart enough to not do anything with it afterwards, just ejected it with windows and unplugged it. She's bringing it home now, and is hoping I can find a way to fix it for her. I'm pretty sure she just did a quick format. The drive is a Western Digital 1TB.

I'm hoping somebody will be able to point me towards a legit free recovery program, and maybe a simple tutorial of how to use it to recover this drive. Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Ran it, it found everything. I was hoping there would be some voodoo magic that would "undo" the quick format and put it back the way it was somehow, but this will work. Thanks.

Glad it is OK! Frequent and regular backups on to an external disk are important for every computer!
