After replacing the psu, the pc would start up and then immediately shut down. So I re-installed it and the fans now come on, but no screen activity and the hard drive does not seem to be spinning up. Could I have fried the c drive? The power cable is the white molex kind.

Disconnect everything but the board(ensure the 20/24 pin and 4/8 pin cpu power is connected)/cpu[and its cooler]/1 stick of memory and video card. leave out hard drives optical drives and un needed usb devices.

See if you can at least get it to post.

The reality is that a cheap power supply can take out many parts when it fails.
