Hello. I built a new machine with a 250GB SSD and it boots and everything looked good, but when I installed the standard SATA hard drive, I got no prompt to install or format - and Windows Explorer does not show it when I search. The device does display in Device Manager. Can someone give me a nudge? Thank you.

SSDs are a little strange. Because I have little experience with them, did you plug the SSD into the SSD or PCI-E x4 slot? Do you have drivers for it?

It is installed as a SATA drive. It's a Samsung 840 EVO. There is no SSD slot. It's mounted in an adapter into a 3.5 slot. There is no PCI E slot either as far as I've seen. I followed a post elsewhere on this site that said install the SSD and load windows on it before hooking up any other drives. I do have drivers, but Windows installed it automatically. I hope this helps you vidsalize the setup.

Alright. I see. Go to Computer and tell me if you see drive Z:/ X free out of X GB

Control panel > Administrative tools > computer management > disk management. The wizard to initialize the disk should come up. If not right click on the disk > initialize.

There is no "Initiate" option. I do not see Z:/ X free out of X GB. The drive displays in BIOs and in Device Manager, but is not available for use. I did get a message about an unavailable driver, but there was no disc with the hard drive. Thank you.

Ok! so OS is on ssd and everythings fine.
Move ssd to number 1/hdd to 2/cd to 3 = save and exit
Does the hdd have a letter assignment in bios = E for example?
If not in windows control panel go to system and security/administrative tools/create and format hdd
That will assign a drive letter for hdd
