Does anyone know how to setup the UEFI BIOS on a ASUS z87-Plus motherboard? I have followed the instructions on Asus' forum without any luck.

I am trying to create a RAID 1 setup using 2 Western digital 3 TB Green drives.
So far I have done the following:

  • ■ Updated the BIOS to the latest version
    ■ Updated the HardDrive firmware
    ■ Set the SATA mode to RAID
    ■ Set the CSM to UEFI ONLY - also tried OPRAM Only
    ■ HardDrives are defined as GPT

No matter what I try I can't get the IRST screen or the UEFI IRST menu to appear to allow me to create the RAID. I have called the ASUS support line 5 times but they were useless. Has anyone here successfully been able to create a RAID volume with the ASUS Z87 family of motherboards?

Hi Calvin, That is the problem - No matter what I do I can't get the Intel RAID setup screen to display. I have tried hitting CTRL + I so many times the letters on those 2 keys have worn off. I have read somewhere that the motherboard board has 2 sets of SATA connectors, I will try to change the drive connections to the other ports tio see it that solves my problem. ASUS really needs to get better at documenting their hardware better.
Thanks for the reply

Hi tradesman1,
I never got to the point of installing the OS because the RAID setup utility (either UEFI or OPRAm) never displayed to allow me to create the RAID volume. I can't move forward with the OS install until the RAID volume is created. based on what I'm seeing, I don't think the motherboard is bad - seems more like the BIOS settings and the lack of clear documentation.

Thanks for your response. If you come up with any other solution please let me know.

You can't create the RAID volume in the BIOS? Go to BIOS and find SATA config, should have a RAID option (i.e. options AHCI, IDE or PATA, RAID) select that, then should have a new option appear when you boot into BIOS prior to getting into BIOS to hit F4 or whatever to go into the RAID utility

I got the same problem just a few hours ago.

To solve this problem:

Step 1. BIOS--> Advanced --> Boot --> CSM --> Boot from Storage Device --> Choose Both, L, U option. Don't leave this ignored.

Step 2. BIOS--> Advanced --> Sata --> change to RAID

Step 3. Save and restart, then you should be able to see the first screen for Entering RAID Setting.

However, after this problem solved , I'm now having another problem: Can't install the Win7 x64. It always ask me to restart the computer to re-install the OS .

Is this because of the RAID setting ?
It would be very appreciated if anyone can help me with this!
