my external hard drive is not working when i plug it in to my desktop, doesnt show on "My Computer". however when i plug in the same drive with my laptp it works perfectly fine. when connected to my desktop i can see the lights on my external hard drive... i checked the device manager but the USB driver is up to date. (Both systems have windows 7, 64 bit in them)

Windows on your desktop PC may have failed to assign a drive letter to it, it often happens with external hard drives even though other computers don't have that problem with the same drive.
Go into Disk Management: Control Panel > Admin Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management
In the bottom-right panel, find the ribbon which has no drive letter or name and has the word "Raw" in it's description.
This is your external hard drive.
Right-click on that ribbon and choose "Change Drive Letters and Paths"
Click "Add"
Accept the default letter which is highlighted and click "OK"
Wait for the ribbon description to update. It should then show the drive name and you should then see it in "My Computer".
