Hello, Had a couple questions for those who have this heatsink installed in their computer. I'm running a AMD board, and the backplate intel brackets look like they might be touching the computer case. I've had to bend the intel brackets a bit to get it to fit inside the computer. That's one of the questions. Will the bracket be alright if it touches the computer case? Should I cut them off or something along those lines. Or just wrap them with electrical tape?

Now another question is the backplate is fully metal would that cause any shorting of anykind as it is fully against the back of the board?
My Mobo is the M5A97 R2.0 Asus Motherboard.

Thanks in advance.

Yes the cooler back plate sits against the motherboard. This is confirmed as I have the hyper 212 evo and an AMD board. my specs are in my signature.

If the bracket touches the motherboard mounting plate (the case) it will put pressure on the motherboard that is not supposed to be there. if you add electrical tape to it, it will make the bracket thicker possibly putting more pressure on the board that could warp the board and hurt the connections inside the board itself.

Make sure you are using the brass stand-offs that hold the board away from the mounting plate. These are designed to keep the board from touching the motherboard mounting plate and causing a short. They also allow for the CPU cooler back plate to fit between the...
If you are using the motherboard standoffs the back plate should not touch the case. If they do you can cut then off but be sure to file any bent metal/rough edges down so that there is no chance of it damaging the board if it makes contact. As for electrical tape, If it is touching the case I would not put it on because it will make the bracket even thicker and could warp the board.

The cooler's back plate should never touch the motherboard mounting plate. This could cause an electrical discharge that could fry more than just the CPU.

Looking at this video it looks like it might be normal for the entire backplate to be pressed against the motherboard completely.

@ 4:40 roughly it shows it I think. This is how mine looks right now. If anyone with a AMD board can confirm this thank you.

I'll probably just cut the intel bracket prongs off. But you said electrical tape around them wouldn't be any good?

They also allow for the CPU cooler back plate to fit between the motherboard mounting plate and the board. The stand offs are a industry standard size so the cooler back plate should never touch the board's mounting plate.
