Lately, my rig has been acting up. I can't launch any game, and even just using the web will make my computer crash. It goes to a colored screen (always different) with slightly darker colored vertical lines running through it. I cannot power it down with the power button, so I have to restart it and then turn it off. My PC is self-built, and I've had it for a little over a year now. Specs:
CPU: i7 2600k
Heatsink: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus
MOBO: Asus P8Z77-M
GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 7870
RAM: 16 GB Corsair Vengence
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB
PSU: Raidmax RX-850AE
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit

I'm running the latest AMD Catalyst Beta drivers, and none of my hardware is overclocked. Any and all help is much appreciated!

Solution
First if you have any overclocks test them for stability (run prime95 for the CPU) this will also test the thermals on the CPU and eliminate any overheating issue (you will need thermal monitoring software such as core temp ect). Also make sure all system drivers are up to date. Then you need to go through the following also to eliminate components, Test the RAM with memtest86 (needs to be burnt to CD or put on bootable USB stick and run from boot) test each stick individual by removing any others. Test the HDD for errors (crystaldisk or other software). Test the GPU with any of the available software (MSI kombustor ect). If all comes back clean then the issue is most likely the PSU (as mentioned above the PSU is fairly weak). I had a...

Most of your system is very good. However, the most common culprit is the PS and unfortunately your Raidmax PS is rated in the lowest tier of PS quality. I would have to suspect this first. If you have an older PS or a friend has one, just do a messy, on the table next to your system, hookup to compare and see if your problem goes away. You don't need a high power PS, 400 watts is fine just for testing since you don't even have to play any games to have problems.

I had a similar fault a few months after building mine, I tried everything and I traced it to a cable compression from the PSU (I crushed one of the wires in the rear case lid) so that is also something to look at (cheack all the connections are sound to the hardware and motherboard). Sorry its long winded but it always is when fault finding.
