Hi guys, Jack here,
Was just curious as i bought a second-hand ASUS Rampage IV as it had bent pins,so i got it for cheap price, now the only question is, does that means its dead, like, for example the guy who i bought it of had an outstanding amount of water cooling Kit and he was overclocking the hell out of the CPU (i7 3820) and he said it accesses the bios but not functions properly it gives of BSOD,so he dismantled his setup and took out CPU, in which he discovered bent pins.

Now I was just wondering is this motherboard dead as the pins were touching of each other but he said he hasn't attempted to put CPU back in due to the bent pins but ANYONE can tell me this bullshit, just to try sell the board for money, but i had hope in it.

OK so to get to the point i cant afford such and expensive CPU at the moment as I have my own build already and got this as a project, but is there anyway I could test this board without a CPU, to see if there is a sign of life and that it is not completely Fried/Dead/Kaput , (((JUST TO MENTION I FIXED ALL BENT PINS NONE ARE MISSING))

Solution
You can bend the pins back and it does work..Just try to get them as straight as possible! Which is hard but if their straight enough it should be fine. Using Tweezers is the best way to get them back into the same position and then it should be good to put the CPu back in the socket. Could you link up a photo of your job of bending the pins back? Just to see if it is good enough to put the CPU back in.

-The motherboard shouldn't be dead if the pins were touching in the socket.

-If you got it for a really good price, then it will be worth while getting, but when you buy it DONT let him rip you off, say it's probably not worth fixing but i'll buy it for a (cheap) price!

Thanks for the Reply unknownofprob :D
I feel that I have more of a chance to get this mobo to work,
Just to fill you in with the info pins are back in place, but will still link you to a photo once i get a hold of good quality camera later today, and phewww I thought it was junk although i bought it for €30 which wasnt bad in a way, all I need now is to buy a CPU for it :( I already got this mobo of him Im just curious what he was doing to it as it may have just died on him.

I'd get a 4820k for that motherboard, Reason why I like LGA 2011 over LGA 1150 (you have LGA 2011 - so do I) as LGA 2011 Has 40 lanes of bandwidth whilst LGA 1150 has much less.....I think something like 24. LGA 2011 has support for a 6 core CPU, I have a 4930k and it's great. A 4820k would be a really good CPU for the motherboard.

You are the best man :bounce:, thanks for the recommendation I will look into buying one of those as I am currently new to the 2011 socket ,as my setup is based of 1155 and one more quick question, When I get the CPU and put it in the mother board is there a chance of it burning out, if the motherboard may have other internal damage ? just curious :??: Thanks man :)

the pins were bent, but if they are close to straight and close to where they should be it will be fine to put a cpu back in that socket, Once you buy a camera and link up the photo's I'll be able to tell if it is safe and good enough. Bent pins have been straightened and CPU's been put back in before, so it should work for you too. It won't burn up or anything like that, as long as you've done a good job which you probably have, it'll be fine.
