Ok please help iv been having an issue for quite some time and am no longer sure if the motherboard is the issue. I have a Cq57 presario laptop, when i press the power button the fan spins up (from what i hear) and the lights come on there is no beeping of any sort (which i am unsure if its supposed to on this laptop anyway) the computer had done this same thing about a year ago. A month or so ago i pulled it out of the closet (putting it there to keep it safe until i repaired it) i charged it up and started it and it worked just fine???? then about three weeks or so ago it just up and stop aging for no obvious reason im very easy on my tech. Now once it "starts up" the caps lock flashes repeatedly in the same almost slow past with no differences the laptop repair guy i talked to said its almost always the motherboard but i don't know could it be a loose cord or maybe bad ram or bios?? I don't know but i am able and smart enough to take it apart or look for specific things if you need be its just that id rather replace the problem rather than the whole motherboard and then the issue still be there if you know what i mean. So please please help.

Everything acted as noted above but there was no beeps with ram removed. The screen is also removed would that cause an interference with the single to beep? If not and you think its the motherboard could you tell me what might be the issue with it, is it just the motherboard, or is it the cpu fan/heat-sink etc.. so i know what part to buy.

There is no noise but there is a flashing light the caps lock flashes. It flashes 3 slow times with the ram removed then stops for a bit then flashes three slow times aging and so on so forth. With ram in it flashes 2 times then stops for a bit and then repeats.

So you think its the motherboard and not anything else i mean im fully prepared to replace the motherboard because repair this laptop is still cheaper than buying a new so im going to repair this time around (If it ever breaks aging) but i just like to know if it might be anything else (remember the screen is still out.)

No this is the first time it has broke since i bought it and i think its because my friend dropped it, also i have this rig at my house so the laptop performs great for what i use it for when not home. So you think it is purely a motherboard fault?

I can't really tell what the problem is or if it is the motherboard or not. From what problems you are experiencing it sounds like a motherboard fault but it can be more then one factor. To be put simply, there can be more then one problem here, as the motherboard could be playing a part also. I can't just say if it is one thing as it sometimes isn't. Could you update on anything different that happens that could help me identify what problem/problems there could be.

I took all apart the motherboard looked clean and fine but the thermal past was a little crusty i guess would be the word but i don't know if that's normal anyways other than that i didnt see anything that would be causing a problem??? AHHHH i guess ill just replace the board and hope for the best unless you have any ideas? :(
