I tend to try and run virtual machines for different things sometimes running multiple vms. What I would like to know is this:

Laptop specs are:
Intel i7 4700MQ 2.4GHZ-3.4GHZ 4-core, 8 thread
16GB DDR3 PC3-12800
AMD Radeon HD 8970M 4GB GDDR5 GPU

120GB SSD
750GB 7,200RPM HDD
750GB 5,400RPM HDD

I have 4GB of PC3-10600 Ram sitting around I was thinking of putting in just to boost my overall ram.

Would this work? If so, would I see a big difference in performance? I'm sure things would slow down a little as they are different speed ram, but in all reality would I truly see the difference?

If it just won't work then that's fine, I may look into upgrading to more ram. (My laptop has 4 slots with 2 taken currently)

Thanks

it will depend on how many pins if it is buffer or not but also the slowest MHz RAM installed means all the RAM will run at that speed for example you have 2 sticks one at 1866MHz and one at 1066MHz the RAM will run at 1066MHz slowing the over all performance
