Hello everyone, I upgraded to a FX-8350 two months ago only to now realize I've done a terrible mistake and the CPU is bottlenecking the rest of my system.

From what I've read so far it is clear that I should go for an Intel processor (Correct me if I'm wrong) in order to get the optimal gaming experience, the question is, which one?

I'm not really constrained by a budget and I would like a processor that allows me to play with a GTX 670 4GB SLI setup in 1440p and at 60fps as long as my GPUs can handle it.

My current setup is as follows:

4 x 4GB Vengance 1600MHz RAM
FX-8350 4.1GHz Black Edition
1x Nvidia GeForce GTX 670 4GB OC'd
1x KFA2 GeForce GTX 670 4GB
1x 2TB Harddrive
850W 80+ Gold Modular Powersupply

Any and all tips are much appreciated, thank you in advance! :)

I have trouble with most games really. Saints Row 3, Borderlands 2, Tomb Raider (new one), Shadow Warrior, Divinity Dragon Commander, you name it. I land on 30ish frames as long as I'm not looking straight up into the sky that is.

I've tried lowering the graphics settings and resolution to rock bottom to see if it would improve anything but I retain the same frame-rate which means (or so I'd assume) that the CPU is holding me back.

Yes, I've been considering overclocking but I feel that instead of taking my chances with OC'ing I'd rather buy a new one. (A bit lazy but I'm also scared of breaking my parts :c ) Although then again, I could use some new cooling for my sistem, not sure... What CPU coolers would you guys recommend? I believe my current one is a Corsair H-6something, closed water system.

What is your current motherboard? If you want to overclock the FX 8350, I suggest you choose between these 2 Boards: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128514 and http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131851

Are you sure your only getting 30fps? i have an fx-6300 at 4.1ghz/hd7850 2gb combo on an m5a97 (pretty budget setup) and play bf4 at 50fps on ultra (64player maps), tomb raider on max without tressfx at average 55fps and get well over 100fps running borderlands 2. (1080p single gpu) I used too have 2x7850's but sold one to my friend and with the fx 6300, had solid 75fps on bf4 ultra with 125% reso scale, something like 80ish on tomb raider and some rediulous numbers on easier games like borderlands 2 and battlefield 3

Not trying to be rude, but my $180 video card and $130 cpu (aust) is getting considerably better results than your 8350/670, but then again i just saw your running 1440p, so i don't know how much off a performace hit it would give to my system. (my mistake, probably should read better!) I was just shocked as i am looking at a 1440p monitor and freaked out, if 2x670's is struggling ill be getting like 20 frames with my corny 7850!

Is their that much of a hit going to 1440p from 1080p?

The GPU has to render about 1.5 million pixels more @1440p than @1080p. So yeah.

Come to think about it his post states that lowering the res does not increase frames.... thats definately a sign that something is not right. I know for a fact that an 8350 can run all those games mentioned at well above 60fps. For example i can drop my res down to 720p and get 70fps on ultra bf4 and so on. My cpu (fx 6300) is nowhere near as good as the 8350 he has. Has the OP got triple buffering disabled in the control panel? because that can cause the framerate to drop straight to 30fps if it can't handle a full 60fps if remember correctly.

I had a simlar problem with a couple of games i was running where the frame rate was dropping straight to 30 if it deviated from 60 at all, regardless of res or settings. Check that triple buffering is enabled in the gpu control panel. Once i enabled triple buffering my framerate drops to 30 had almost dissapeared (especially transitioning from sky to full detail landscapes). I actually had this last week when i put sweetfx and a modified user.cfg file into bf4 which had triple buffering disabled and i had drops to 30fps as soon as i transitioned from sky to action, once i changed the triple buffering line in the user.cfg, those sikes down to 30 dissapeared and settled around 46.

I would expect 2x670's and a 8350 to get some pretty good numbers at 1080p, well over 60fps in borderlands 2 and saints row 3! so it shouldn't be a cpu bottleneck at all. Good luck though, hopefully you can fix without having to upgrade, because i would kill for the specs of your computer. lol

i dont think it is a cpu bottleneck. i only have a 650ti with a 6300 and get 40+ frames on 1080p without the tressfx. even though an 8350 might bottleneck your 670 , it should'nt be a problem to run tomb raider. even a bottlnecked 670 sli is ofcourse better than my 650ti
