Hi,

I have recently bought a amd 8320 processor . When i plug in the 24 pin connector the cpu fan spins but with the 12v 4pin connector the cpu fan starts then stops.

HW:

AMD 8320
Gigabyte 970A-DS3P
750w PSU

Please help

sounds like shorted cpu issue. look at cpu pins make sure non are bent(and on the motherboard too). also make sure no thermal paste is on pins or touching anything on the top of the cpu besides the flat die surface. (its a common mistake to apply to much paste and have it push out the edges and short something out.)

i don't think anything has shorted because if I swap my cpu fan into a sysfan slot in my motherboard and just have one of the case fans in the cpu fan then that works.

in your bios settings check the setting that says "CPU fan speed control" make sure its set to normal. you could also set it to disable and see if fan runs at full speed to see if its the cpu auto thermal control not working right or the whole plug is bad.

more info on this setting is found in your motherboard manual under bios setting section
