My Windows Vista laptop all of a sudden will not get on the internet when ethernet cable is plugged in. I get local access and internet only via wifi. I took the computer to work and had the same result. I do not have a static IP set on the computer. I can connect to my printer and network cams only via wifi. As soon as I plug in the cat5 cable I cannot access the internet. Any suggestions and assistance would be appreciated.

Solution
Could simply be a defective ethernet port (or a foreign object in it). Look inside and inspect for anything to be removed. I have also seen these ports get "bent" out of shape and the contacts end up not making solid connections. I have manually used a very small screwdriver to pull individual connections back into place.

Good luck!

I have this issue at home even using multiple ethernet cables. I encounter the same problem at work using different ethernet cables as well. For example, at home I can access my router, local IP cams, and ping my router when the cat5 is plugged in. I can do the exact same at work with the work cams, and the work router. Once I plug in the ethernet cable everything goes bye bye. I cannot access local content or the web once I have the ethernet cable plugged in. I have never had this issue at work or at home. It makes no sense. Thanks for responding.
