I use a desktop to do my everyday browsing/gaming/work. With at&t uverse I ran an ethernet cable across the hall into my parent's room and connected it to their box. (Not the modem. That is downstairs.) The other day we got xfinity installed so I attempted to connect to the new box upstairs, but there is no connection.

I have restarted the modem and the box, renewed my ip, and tried using a dns but i keep getting "Unidentified network: No network access." Any suggestions as to why it isn't working with comcast?

Using windows 7 home premium.

And tethering currently isnt an option. The unreliable speed and constant DCing is too much of a headache.

Solution
The ATT and Comcast systems are very different.

A Comcast digital cable box will not allow you to access the internet. You must connect to a router connected to the cable modem, either through wired Ethernet or WiFi.
