i7 4770k on MSI Z87-GD65 strange Voltage behavior

Hi everybody,

this is not my first OC but I´m not nearly a pro. But atleast I´d like to think, that I know what I´m doing ^^

I´m running a i7 4770k on an Z87-GD65 with an H110 as a cooling solution.
PSU is a be quiet Dark Power 750w.

So here are my questions:

First the CPU Voltage Mode is set to Override Mode, but no matter what Voltage is set it always goes exactly 0.016V higher under load. Why is that?

Second I have it stable at 4,4Ghz on 1,185V.
But due to some Workers in Prime95 lagging behind and the Worker #1 especialy I tried amping up the voltage a little.
But oddly the system gets more unstable with a higher Vcore on the same CPU Multiplier.
Can someone explain this to me please?


Third the temperatures behavior bugs me also.
It doesn´t matter if I have 1,18 or 1,3v applied the reach up to 81°C not very much higher even with over 0,1V more.

And 4,4GHz seems to be the cap for my chip, doesn´t even with 1.3v it´s not getting stable. Is that strange or normal for these chips?

And that´s offtopic I know, but why are some workers so far behind, some over 1min. I´m not using Windows during the test and have all backround programs disabled.
CPU usage us 0% before the start, any ideas?

software voltage monitoring is never spot on compared to even the set motherboard voltage or voltage check points .016 is not a huge error, and i've seen worse in monitoring

Hello there,I have an MSI mpower max z87 and I face very similar problem.Stable at 1.25 v 4.5 Ghz,can boot at 1.225 v at 4.6 Ghz but impossible to have a stable 4.6 GHz.AT 1.295v almost stable ,any increase in Vcore makes it more unstable.Gone upto 1.45 v and things the least I can say get less stable.This is odd.I think you can do nothing about it and may be this is an MSI boards strange behaviour.May be change board.If you are stable 1.185 and 4.4 Ghz you should easily do 4.5 Ghz at 1.25-1.275.Do you remember your stock vid(vcore before overclock as read in the bios).
