Hey guys, as the title states I'm getting the itch to upgrade my PC my current PC was my first ever build 5 years ago. Although I've upgraded things like the video card and added an SSD. Things that are making me think of a new build are sata 6gb/s support, PcI 3.0 and some features for gaming the motherboard I'm looking at has. I also photo and video edit with this computer. Reasons I'm thinking of holding off till late 2014 early 2015 is with all the new stuff coming out ie: intels new processors DDR4 that kind of stuff.

Current Rig:

P6T SE Mobo
i7 930 (tried overclocking but failed miserably lol)
intel 520 128GB SSD
WD caviar Black 1TB
Asus CU II 7870
12GB Corsair XMS 1333Mhz triple channel
Noctua DH-14 CPU cooler
Corsair tx 750w psu
Antec 1100 case

Proposed New Rig:

ROG maximus Hero VI
i7 4770k or 4771
16GB Gskill trident 2133
GTX 780 ti
Samsung evo 500GB SSD (old SSD will go into laptop)
adding another 2TB HDD for more storage of photos and videos to supplement the 1TB
PSU and case and CPU cooler will be the same.

Plan on using all the old computer parts for the kids computer. Thanks for taking the time.

I don't think DDR4 support will be available by late 2014/early 2015. It should be available on Xeon server CPU's some time in Q3 2014 but it won't come to consumer desktops until Haswell-E CPU's are released (rumoured Q2 2015 now).

Intel's next CPU, Broadwell, is now slated for a 2015 release but it's probably not worth waiting for either. Improvements seem heavily focused on iGPU and power consumption. Be very lucky for any more than a 10% increase in IPC and it won't support DDR4. However - it will bring SATA Express.

Sorry I didn't really explain what I was asking babachicken....was wondering if I should go ahead and upgrade now to what I want or hold off till the next gen processors, ddr4 etc were released but since from caspers post looks like 18 months away I'll just go ahead now.
