I need help figuring out how to get a My Passport Ultra (500GB) external hard drive to work.

I have a MacBook. Please help me figure out how to install my new My Passport Ultra (500 GB) external hard drive device. Supposedly a "WD Apps Setup" screen should pop up when I plug it in, but it doesn't on my computer. Thanks for your help.
