Should I upgrade my CPU for poor graphical quality?

I've recently noticed a downward spiral for my overall PC performance - I've been playing graphically undemanding games such as minecraft, and I still experience FPS problems.

My biggest question is, should I upgrade my CPU? I currently have an i5-3470(with a 3.2ghz output). For a graphic card, I have an Asus Geforce Gtx660, and for a motherboard, i have a n ASrock z77 pro3. I run the everything on an HDMI cord to my 32' TV as a monitor.

Is the source of my FPS problems my CPU? It's really bothering me, seeing how I just built everything not even 4 months ago. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance!

You should be able to run plenty of games on that hardware, including the more demanding stuff. You say you built this 4 months ago, have you updated your graphics drivers? Try that.

No, that CPU should tear through Minecraft no problem. What exactly do you mean poor FPS/problems? You should be able to pull over 60 FPS with higher settings in the game, with my rig (see sig) I can completely max out every setting to highest graphical intensity with the newest update and pull over 120 FPS easily, more if I look at any angle besides right in front of me or when I am in a cave or something, I think the lowest I saw it go was 90 FPS.

I would scan for Malware with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, use CCleaner to clean out useless junk files and registry problems, and IoBit's Advanced System Care to clean and optimize performance. Tell me if that helps at all.

Whoops, sorry, didn't mean to tag your response as Best Solution(sorry, no offense :p )

Yes, I just check on Nvidia, all the drivers are completely up-to-date. I still run at about 15-20fps when I should be getting quite a bit more. I'll try out the things apcs13 mentioned.

That's okay. The drivers are updated, but is java updated? (Since minecraft uses java). Also, check your open processes in task manager, maybe a program (or many programs) use up a whole lot of your CPU, and prevents you from gaming. A general rule of thumb is to have a minimum amount of programs open while gaming.

I unselected the solution so that you can pick the proper one that helped you in the future, or reselect it when you determined if it helped. My tips may work for you, so be sure to at least try them.
