I know I should plug my monitor into my gpu but why should I and how much if any will it affect my display if I use a VGA to DVI adapter?

Solution
none there will be no difference. DVI is for monitor at high Hz or use 1080p or higher. I don't think VGA can sustain 1080p and usually works at 1280x1024.

Your GPU is made for 1080p+ monitors but it seems your using a monitor that uses VGA, your simply translating it to allow your GPU to work with this monitor. Shouldn't affect your display.
