Is my hard drive failing?

Ive had my 2tb hard drive for about a year and a half, i took it out of my premaid pc and used it for the gaming pc i built. everything was fine for 2 months, now i sometime hear ticking noises but they're very low tone. they go away after a bit but the next time i boot up it happens at random moment then goes away again. i see no symptoms of failure, my pc runs perfectly fine but this noise worries me
my specs if needed
windows 8.1
amd readeon r9270x 2gb
i7 4770k 3.5ghz
16gb of ram
2tb hard drive

If it's not a system boot drive you can test it with the manufacturer's diagnostic software for Windows. Links are here:

If it is a system drive that you boot Windows from, you will need to test it with DOS diagnostic software which loads from a bootable CD. Links same page as above, except for Western Digital link which is here:

its not loud but you can slightly hear it in the backround
