keyboard asus notebook: output if you type the number '2' the output is 2a, if you type 'a' the output is 2a. Not all the keys malfunction, but many do. Examples: l output 30, 7 output 75, 0 output /, m output 30

Solution
Alright, well this is going to be a bit more difficult. With this particular model you need to replace the entire top panel (including the touch pad).
here is a video of someone taking it apart (3:00 - 5:00 is what is relevant)

Because you are replacing the entire panel and not just the keyboard it looks like it will be a bit more expensive upwards of $60 for a new one and anywhere between $25 - $40 for a used one. Your other option would be to buy a standard keyboard for like $5 and use that instead (makes it a bit less mobile).

Your keyboard is going bad, buy a new one, usually run around 20 bucks, usually pretty simple and easy to install. (look up a youtube video if it is your first time). If you put down more information like your laptop model I could give you a more accurate price and difficulty to replace.

ASUS Model: U46E Check#2180 ID:1A Assembled 2011 I5-2410 CPU @ 2.30GHz 64-bit OS

additional information: my wife plugged this into a docking station and its works fine, but when she disconnects it from the docking station it acts funny. I can plug in a external USB keyboard and again it would fine, or the on screen typing option works too.
