What is the AWM case cable mean and what is it for?

I have this black yellow and red AWM cable but I don't know what it's for or what it stands for. Is it a necessary cable or could I just leave it alone?

I think you mean PWM. A PWN cable has three or four wires in the colours you said and is controls a case fan. You will need to connect it to a fan socket on your mobo, preferably a 4 pin one if you want fan control.
