In the process of purchasing a laptop. I've actually never owned one and want to make sure that I purchase one that will last and perform well enough to be useable in school and still allow me to kill things on computers between classes with best bang for my buck.

That's almost as good as it gets in a gaming laptop. Just know you might be at the mercy of the laptop manufacturer to provide video drivers as most GPU implementations in laptops have some proprietary tweaks to them. Also, I would be concerned with the cooling solution of any laptop as a good GPU like that can emit a ton of heat in the confines of a laptop shell.
