Hi all,

Basically, I want to buy a WD My Book Live 3TB network drive but i want it to be in my front room (wireless box is upstairs), so i looked at buying some homeplugs (TP-LINK 500mbps nano ones) but it says the ethernet port on it is only 10/100 speed, and the drive says it can run up to 1gbit so wouldnt using the homeplugs make it slow?

Also if i brought the homeplugs i'd also buy an ethernet switch so that the gaming desktop in my front room could be wired instead of wireless. the desktop can also run 1gbit ethernet. also plugged into the ethernet switch i'd have my new samsung smart tv and my ps3 (both are wireless but i still think wired is more reliable)
So would using this set up make the the transfer rate between devices slow beens as it seems to be stuck at 100mbps from the homeplugs? or does that not matter?

also i have virgin medias 60mb broadband so will using the 100mbps homeplugs on my desktop reduce or increase the speed of its internet connection? (at the moment i only get around 45mbps on the wireless (which is set to 144mbps and all devices are wireless N)

Speed between devices is limited to the speed of the slowest in the chain.

And homeplugs and WiFi are very environmentally sensitive. The condition of the wiring in the house could make it even slower.

It won't be horrible, but if there is a 10/100 device in the chain, that is all you will get. 100Mbps absolute max.
