Ok, so I have an Asus vivobook S550cb with a intel i5 3317u cpu clocked at 1.7ghz with turbo upto 2.6ghz and a TDP of 17.

After using the laptop for a quite sometime I've come to the conclusion that I'd need to upgrade my cpu I'm thinking of going for a intel i7 3840qm or the 3820qm which are both 45 TDP/watt cpu's.

However here's my problem; before I can upgrade I need to know my motherboard model/id so I don't get a cpu with a higher TDP which could fry my system; but the problem is; I cannot for the love of god, find this damned motherboard anywhere on the Internet. I've even contacted Asus themselves and the employee who I spoke to said they had no clue and couldn't help, so now I'm turning to the good people of toms hardware to help me out.

Sorry for the lack of punctuation im typing on a phone and it can get pretty frustrating switching between symbols and letters every time I need to put a comma in.

The 3317u has a TDP of 17w and some of the higher models go up to 35w so your motherboard would need to accept a 35w CPU.

According to the Asus site that notebook will support a i7 along with the i5 and it will support up to the i7-3537u which is also a 17w CPU. So it would appear that the max TDP the motherboard will support is 17w. The two links to the Intel ARK web pages give you the CPUs that are 17w TDP and you can choose from them for the upgrade.
