Hi everyone,

I've been water cooling my rig for about a year now with a custom loop. Everything is fine but, I want to move some things around to improve the look and make it easier for draining, so I thought I would ask a few of you seasoned water cooling experts out there.

So, I know the rule of thumb is that the Res should always be higher in the loop than the Pump, but what about the rest of the configuration....i.e...
Block >> Rad >> Res >> Pump
or,
Block >> Res >> Pump >> Rad...
Does it "Really" matter?!

Also one of the things I'm going to be doing is mounting a Tube/Cylinder Res horizontally. I'm guessing that it will be a bit harder to bleed and/or fill, but are there any other worries I should know about??

Thanks guys appreciate your help and advice.
Cheers

the rest of the config really does not matter at all as long as you have the reservoir above pump :p
no worries with a vertical res, just tip the case sideways during filling and loop bleeding :D

also the max temp diff between say water coming straight out of cpu at load, and coming cooled out of a radiator is max temp difference of like 3 degrees c, so there is some temp difference, but really not enough to be worth making your loop look like frankensteins chest

That's good to know, thanks.

My current loop is setup CPU Block >> Rad >> GPU Block >> Rad >> Res >> Pump. But because of where the rads are, I have a ton of tubing going in every direction and it doesn't look great. So I wanna change it around to simplify it, but I wasn't 100% sure if it really didn't matter what order they went in.

Thanks again, appreciate it.

this is what I use to fill or bleed my systems

this setup makes the job rather easy

as far as loop order I do things a little differently

something's to think about when looking at loop order

Ideally you should do:

pump > radiator > cpu > radiator > gpu > res

This separates the heat producing units from each other as best as possible, your pump will be dumping heat into the loop so you want to cool it as much as possible before hitting the cpu and the same from the cpu to the gpu.

Depending on the tube yes it will be more difficult to fill and bleed air out unless you tilt it so it's vertical until you're done bleeding and filling. The higher up in your loop that the reservoir is the easier it is to get the air bubbles to go that way since air tries to go up in water. As far as how to route the tubing, that's pretty hard to tell you without seeing what you're doing, especially since the reservoir is horizontal like you said. Also knowing where you're putting the radiators would help out a lot, and what sizes are they. I mean there's 3 typical places you mount reservoirs so with two where are you going to put them?

Thanks for the reply Toolmaker_03. May I ask what type of radiator that is in this pic: https://imageshack.com/i/04alldone003j - Is it just a normal 240/360 rad with the outer casing removed?

Cheers

Thanks Davil, appreciate your advice.

I'm all good with how to config the tubing in the loop, I was pretty sure that it really wouldn't make much difference what order the res, rad and pump went in but I wanted to ask anyway just to be sure.

As for bleeding it with the res horizontal, again I should be ok I think. My res has a lot of inlets and outlets so the I was going to have it like this, and tilt the res when filling the loop to get the air out easier.

So hopefully it won't be too difficult to bleed.
Thanks
