I have an old dell dimension 4700. Checked the Dell approved hardware list for my model and purchased a VisionTek 7750 video card. Installed the card into the pci-e slot, disabled the intel graphics adapter using device manager and switched the bios video setting from onboard to auto and still have no video. Also, if the video card is unable to work properly how can I get back into windows with the onboard graphics set to disabled to enable the onboard intel adapter again. Will Safe Mode load a video driver? Thanks for any assistance!

Go through the steps in my signature and let me know what happens.

Edit: If nothing works, you can pop out the CMOS battery to reset the BIOS, which will reenable the integrated graphics.

TY for your response HiTech. I double checked everything and re-installed the video card just to be sure. I still have no feed from the card. I popped the battery and reset all bios settings. I tried it again, still no go. If the video card is installed in the mobo there is no feed, no matter which video is enabled. The only thing working is the onboard video from intel. I checked the VisionTek forums as well as the Dell forums and all posts that have a resolution say the mobo will auto detect the new card if the bios setting is on "auto". That's definitely not happening on mine.

Did you uninstall the drivers of the previous video card?

There has never been a previous video card installed. This pc was only using the onboard graphics. I looked at all of the installed programs looking for anything Nvidia/evga or amd/ati related. The system looked clean with everything set to the original factory specs. I have not tried the Dell driver reset tool that removes everything as I was holding that for an extreme last resort since everything would require driver upgrades. Normally this type of upgrade is pretty simple but this is a first for me with a Dell product. Thank you again!

Check the power supply wattage. 305 W seems to be a common PSU for the model.
400W PSU is recommended for 7750. So 305 is low.

305w is low, especially for an OEM PSU, but the 7750 will use 75w tops, and the rest of the system would maybe run 125w, so he'd only be looking around 200w or so. It could be since it's old that the PSU has just degraded too much to be sufficient. Dell PSUs aren't exactly known for longevity, and this is a decade old model lol

Also 12V amperage for the PSU is 18A. http://az413224.vo.msecnd.net/img/24549/m_s_p_24549_3.j...
19A is recommended for 7750 (could not find the source but this is mentioned on several forum threads).
Obviously this is a borderline situation.
4700 seems to use standard ATX power supply so it can be easily changed. I'd try with a more decent one.

Looks like the original PS is installed. I will have to raid one of my old boxes for an upgrade. Thank you both for the input. I will let you know if that fixes the problem. I see you researched to get those specs, so TY!
