I have a GeForce GT 630, and a Dell Optiplex 990 Mini Tower. For two weeks, I was able to use the graphics card to its fullest, until a few days ago, while playing Assassin's Creed, the computer just crashed. My CPU kept giving me the diagnostic indicator that means "Memory modules are detected, but a memory configuration or compatibility error has occurred." I encountered this problem before, after I installed a wireless adapter, but it was easily resolved with the quick replacement (remove-return) of the memory modules. This was not the case for this.

It seems that the GeForce GT 630 apparently requires a minimum of 350W, which the Optiplex 990 does not have. My computer now runs (I removed the memory modules again, as well as the graphics card and my wireless adapter, since these were the only ones I felt comfortable messing with inside my CPU), and the computer went to boot. Although... now, my graphics card doesn't seem to work. I connect the monitor to it, and nothing happens, but I move the VGA to the cpu's own connector, and that works, so the problem is now with my graphics card.

I'm worried that I now permanently screwed the graphics card. Maybe it broke because my PSU did not meet its requirements, or because I did something wrong while removing it from its slot, or maybe just because it now seems loose in its slot. I'm still not sure what the source of my problem is. I'm thinking of going back to the store soon to have it checked out, to find out if the problem will only occur on my PC, or if the problem really is the card, and hopefully maybe get it fixed, but I want to be know a bit more beforehand. Like is there something else I can do or check to possibly salvage it? If the problem is the power supply thing, will replacing the PSU enable me to use the video card again, or is it too late? But if ever I do have to upgrade my PSU for this card, or the GT670 (not sure what it was I saw in the store) which I might opt to replace this one with, do you have any recommendations for a PSU, and/or possibly a better graphics card, that would work with this?

P.S. I'm not very computer (hardware) savvy, so, you know.. go easy on me :)
Update: The card's fine. The fan spins. Still no display.

Solution
still think its your card.to find out if the card is pooched you need to actuall install it in another computer and see if you get picture.you are now on your integrated graphics which has nothing to do with your card.seasonic makes a good power supply as does antec.

So it turns out the card is fine. The fan still spins, just no display. :(

so do you mean to say your card is now hooked up and working? not running on the integrated graphics? not trying to belittle you but you said your not very computer savvy so im sorry if i seem to repeat myself.lol
you will definitely want to upgrade your psu.take measurements of the old one and start looking at psus.your local computer store should be able to help there.550w min.

It's inserted in its PCI slot on the motherboard, but when I try to connect the VGA to it, I still get no response on the monitor. So right now I am using the integrated graphics.

Alright. No particular brand/s?
