Hey guys,

I have two hard drives: SSD as my primary and a normal HDD.

Whenever I open a file that is saved on my SSD it opens instantly, very fast.
It was the same for my HDD too, until I updated the bios.

Everytime I now try to open a file that is located on my secondary HDD I can hear my HDD start make crazy loading sounds, as if its booting up.

There is lag on my Windows and after 3-4 secs the file finally opens and the HDD noises stop.
This only happens once then everything else on the HDD operates smoothly, atleast until 15-20 mins later then the same happens again.

It almost sounds like the HDD is on a power saving mode or something and dormant until I request a file that is saved on it and as a result its making my computer a little slower.

The HDD definitely isn't dying either as I have tested it.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Solution
Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Power Options

Select "Change plan settings" for the current plan

Select "Change advanced Power settings"

+Hard disk
+Turn off hard disk after and set 0 for Never

If it is already disabled, It may be a good idea to see if such an option exists in the bios.
