Hi,
I made the mistake of signing up with Avast's tech support. They were trying to figure out why my system restore didn't work and somehow broke my audio.
I'm running 64 bit.
My toolbar icon says there are no speakers plugged in, however in my realtek sound interface, it shows that my speakers are plugged in and recognizes when I unplug them.
If I hit the "Configure" button in the sound interface nothing happens.
The driver is 6.0.1.7083
When I enter the Realtek HD Audio Manager no speakers are shown although it does see that I've got something plugged into the green audio jack.
Any7 ideas what the heck is going on here? Ghosts?

Solution
Well the only option I have for you is to re-install Windows. Whatever the tech support did really messed up your audio drivers and software pretty bad. Hope that helps

That's funny. The reason I was using Avast Tech Support was to discover why my system restore didn't work. They couldn't figure it out and while trying to discover why, broke the audio.
So...no.

Then uninstall the audio drivers then reinstall it. Hope that works

Nope. Reinstalled the drivers a couple times. There's an older version and a newer one. Tried them both. Nothing.
