We currently have this computer. Although it doesn't say it i believe the power supply is 300 watts

I would like to add a graphics card to it. I realize this is not a gaming machine but my kids like to play star wars the old republic, minecraft, and cube world on it. So looking to make that a little easier. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

With 300W, there is not a lot of room. An HD 7730 or a R7 250 is maybe the maximum I would put in. Or an HD7750 if you could find one.

7750 is OK and will most probably work with the current PSU (but barely). And some problems are possible on heavy load.
Do not search for low profile, there is space in the case, bigger cards have better cooling and lower noise.
I can recommend Asus as a brand.

The memory MUST be GDDR5, DDR3 versions are slower.

If the budget allows it go for 7770:

http://www.amazon.com/MSI-Radeon-DisplayPort-PCI-Expres... - good deal
BUT. With 7770 you will require changing the power supply definitely also.
Two affordable options:

Not the best but will do the work.
Nice to see such moms. :)

I am wondering if these suggestions will run with 300 watt supply. If possible I wouldn't want to have to get a power supply too.

With 300w 7750 is the maximum (and barely) but 99% it will work.
Here is a thread of such combination http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1742719 (7750 with similar gateway).
Check these topics and take note if there are problems after the install:

7770 is more powerful, 7850 even more, but these will not work on 300w.

Ok so I found this one locally. Is this ok? Sorry not trying to be a pain. Ty for all the help

Or this

Amazon's is better. Faster memory (GDDR5).
Edit: Check the user reviews on Amazon. 300 W is mentioned in the top review and several after that also. :)
Hope that helps.

@gamermom The one you shortlisted requires min 450W power supply but you said it should be not more than 300W

Did you move the monitor signal cable to the new card?

My issue was that when I installed it the computer would start and the card fan would run but no picture. I when I would take the card out my computer would run fine. I was able to get it to work by turning off secure boot and changing to legacy mode. Is it ok to leave it like that to run all the time?
