Hello! Is a Corsair VS450 (450w) power supply enough for this system?

Intel® Core™i5 Quad Core Processor i5-4570 (3.2GHz) 6MB Cache
ASUS® MAXIMUS VI HERO
16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz
2gb asus gtx760
Standard CD/DVD writer
5 Case fans
NZXT sentry 2 fan controller
500GB 3.5" SATA-III 6GB/s HDD 7200RPM 16MB CACHE
WIRELESS 802.11N 300Mbps PCI-E

If it changes anything the CPU heatsink is a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler.

Please don't direct me to PSU calculator sites as they have all said my system is estimated to run at ~384w.

Solution
the fan controller would be "up to" 50 watts. it supplies the power to 5 fans. some older (pelter?) fans can use 10 watts each. fans now a days use much less in the 3-5 watt neighborhood. so we could go with

110 (cpu, motherboard chipset, ram, HD - we have a benchmark for that)
50 watts for all the fans and controller
160 watts for the gpu
~320 watts

a general "rule of thumb" is to avoid putting more than 80% load of the PSU rated wattage. if you are bit coin mining 24/7, 50% is better.

450*.8 = 360 watts for a few hours of gaming. so yes that wattage would work.

Hi - It might have enough power (barely), but it is not a good choice. It has only 1 pcie connector, your gtx760 requires 2.
Additionally, it is not Haswell ready.

Well: I had already bought the PSU but it had a technical fault right from the get go (Kept shorting itself out the second the PC got turned on) so I just sent it back but a friend brought it to my attention that 450w sounds low. It did attach properly to the 760 then? Or am I missing something? (First time build) Am I meant to attach more than just the 8pin connector to the GPU?

If it's the latest Corsair VS450 (SKU# 75-001835 / CP-9020049) model then that one does have two (6+2)-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors and 34 Amps on its +12V rail.

If it's the old discontinued VS450 (SKU# CP-9020009) model then no.

Mine is the newer one that does have them. Sorry I got confused for a minute haha. Mine has got the relevant connectors. Would you say it is powerful enough or will I need an upgrade?

It should based on the system configuration you posted.

NVIDIA states that a system power supply with a maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 30 Amps or greater is the requirement for a system using a single GeForce GTX 760. The graphics card itself will draw less than 14 Amps from the +12V rail during gaming.

Any idea why people are telling me I need a minimum of 650w then for gaming? (I will ideally be playing games on full graphics) I know I wont be overclocking at all anytime soon and if this changes your answer i noticed I missed off the following:

The 5 case fans are all also LED case fans and the Keyboard ill be using also has a backlight LED as well.

UPDATE: As I have 1 day before they receive my power supply and fault test it: Would you recommend stick with a 450w replacement or upgrade to a 550w or 650w also corsair VS series?

please consider getting a better PSU. the VS series are the lowest of quality that corsair sells. loaded with cheap chinese capacitors (no offense to the chinese)
VS450: the entry-level 240V power supply with high-end features
The Corsair VS450 is a great choice if you’re building a home or office system with lower power demands, but you still demand the compatibility and reliability that Corsair is known for.

do not use that for a gaming rig.

Is the CX series any better? and would you recommend upgrading to a higher wattage or is 450w sufficient?
UPDATE* I have done the maths my self and provided I have done it all correctly I estimate (At 100% usage) 515w?

not a big fan of the CX series either but it is better than the VS series. TBH i recommended a VS to someone a few years ago and it was nothing but problem, which got me looking at them better. i had assumed being crorsair it would be fine :p

now i am curious as to your math:

a haswell set up will use ~110 watts. CPU @ stock, motherboard, ram, etc.

a gtx 760 uses ~160 watts

case fans i am guessing at 5 watts each and wireless card 10 watts.

i'm looking at ~310 watts total system power . . . ????

The Fan controller appears to use 50w on it's own if controlling 5 case fans which it will be and my math was going off the cpu and gpu running at 100% GPU alone is 170w and CPU at 84w. I don't have a clue as I have never done this before. I would upgrade to the RM series but it's a tad expensive for me... Any alternatives that you believe would be good ? Ideally from Dinopc.com so I can try get them to exchange rather than sending me a replacement VS450?

UPDATE* please don't forget the initial question asked. Is 450w enough or so I need to upgrade? :p

thank you for your solution. Lastly would you recommend upgrading to the Corsair CX series or is it a pointless exercise?

fair enough.

but if there is an issue with finding a PSU . . see where i am going?

disclaimer:
i went to the pcdino.com the OP is using and looks like a prebuilt site so i am believing the options are limited.
