I'm planning on building this PC for gaming FSX:

CPU: Intel Core i5 4760 Quad Core 3,40 GHz
MB: Asus Z87-PLUS
Hard Drive: SSD Samfund EVO 840 250 GB
PS: Corsair Builder Series CXM 500W

Now, i'm planning to buy GTX 770 or GTX 760 GPU, but they are quite expensive, so any advise on that would be great!

Second question. Is the i5 4760 good enough to run FSX on full graphics?

Thanks!!!

Solution

Go with intel the I5 4670k or a I7 4770k the 4670K is good i am using it myself for FSX i was using a AMD FX8350 but then went with the I5 4670K better performance since u get better core to core with the 4670K u should be good this is coming from a AMD fanboy intell all the way for FSX
Can't say much bout FSX since I don't play it. The game is a bit dated (2006) and I know for a fact that it only uses 2 cores and it is a very CPU intensive game so it will run better on Intel CPUs vs. AMD CPUs. Hyper Threading is definitely not supported.

Since you are buying a Z87 mobo, you might as well throw in a few more $ for the i5-4670k since you can overclock the CPU.

MS ought to come out with FSXI on the 10 year anniversary of FSX since many people seems to still play that game.

4670k was only suggested because it doesnt cost much more for the potential that is gained with the unlocked k cpu (since you already decided to get a z87 board) But the 2 cpu are essentially the same for your purposes, the k just has more potential

I play fsx regularly.
It is an old game, but orbx scenery have give it a new lease of life.
Even now you still need a beefy set up to run it decently.
I have finally got it running really smooth, but it has cost me a lot of money.
Intel i7 3770k clocked to 4.5 gig on water.
Nvidia Gtx 980
8 Gig of ddr3 ram
Runs perfect, even ngx Boeing 737 runs sweet.

HI All , IM a big fan on FSX and have it pretty sorted out now been using it since it started
CPU I7 2600K not over clocked
MB. Gigabite
RAM 32GB
VD AMD\ RADEON 7800
Run to SSD in Raid 0 absolutely the best HD setup I've ever seen yet
FSX is installed on it on SSD
Runs everything great no lagging at all Best FSX setup I have used so far

One very important thing to do is Set affinity to 255 and it will run on or 8 core no problems at all

Hope that helps Thanks Cyril
