I'm planning to buy myself a new gaming rig soon and I managed to put together a one in which I'll be able to afford GTX 770 (Asus or Palit). I'm going to be playing on an ultrawide monitor so the resolution's gonna be 2560x1080. And that's where the problem arises:

Even though I thought the card should be fine for gaming on such setup for some time, after asking for suggestions on one forum, some guy told me that it's far too weak to support such resolution even now, not to mention in the future. It baffled me a bit since I struggled to think of a rig in which I'll be able to afford even this one so there's definitely no chance to buy 2xGTX 770 (and that's what he suggested) and I had hoped I'd be able to play on ultra for some time.

Could someone who knows a bit about gaming on such resolutions please clarify? Is it true that one GTX 770 is far too weak a card for 2560x1080 and I'll have to cope with 25-ish fps on current games and, as a consequence, there's no chance it'll suffice for a longer time to provide fluent experience?

I play pretty much everything - from point n' click adventure games to triple A blockbusters like Battlefield so can't really answer that question too well.

It's a pity I may need to upgrade to GTX 780 since the price is considerably higher and most likely I'd have to resign from an SSD drive and that was a really important thing to me. Well, I may need to remodel my whole new rig plans, along with the monitor, after all if 770 is too weak for such high resolutions.
