Ok I have a i5 2500k, corsair h100 cooler and gigabyte mb. I just recently went through a nasty storm my PC turned off multiple times. Now my PC is running super hot 90+ degrees idle. I've tried reseating cooler, new paste etc. nothing works. Is there anyway to test what part has gone bad the cooler, mb or processor. Any suggestions would be appreciated please thanks
Sam

Well the back fan that sucks in air to cool radiator is spinning. I can't tell if pump is on it's actually an older h50 corsair. The pump connects to sys fan header

When I said stress test, I forgot that you had those extreme temps at idle.

Ok I put the stock cooler in it and now the temps are back to normal. Is there anyway to use a votage meter or something to check if the corsair pump is bad or the system header fan out is blown on mb from surge?

I plugged the corsair fan into the system fan header it seems to be running kinda weak but I'm still not sure if that's the prob or not. What do you think should do? Just get new cooler if I get same result then return and get new mb?

Probably the cooler, if stock fan works, then I wouldn't think its the motherboard

Yeah I'm about to order myself a 65i it's nicer then the old h50 I have. My only concern is with the stock cooler I don't use the system fan header which is a 4 pin header I used for the h50 pump. I plugged a fan into the system fan header and it does spin so yeah I guess the pump must have gone out. I've just seen surges take out certain things on mb's like just a mb loosing a dvi port from a surge. But that Dvi port was connected to a tv via a dvi to Hdmi adapter. I think that particular setup caused the dvi port to go out. I'm not sure a surge would just destroy only a sys fan header and nothing else. So I'm going for the new cooler, for now I'll have to roll my cpu back to standard speeds while using stock. When I get my cooler I can OC my cpu back to 4.4ghz atm it's just at stock 3.3 o well I can deal with it for a while.

Update on this it actually ended up being the dang motherboard. Somehow the 3 pin sys fan header was damaged. At the time I searched around in the house swearing I had molex to 3pin adapters but couldn't find one. So I just went with assumption the pump was dead on my trusty h50 I had been using for years. So my new h60 arrived I get it all set up boot it up and "wtf" it's still hot! So I'm like ok hell no I know there's a adapter somewhere and I finally find one. I hook the new new pump up through a molex and bam I hear that pump come to life, checked my temps back to super cool. So I go back into Bios set my 2500k back to 4.4ghz and my ram to 2133. Now I have and extra cooler though I guess I'll just use it on my new little AMD APU 6500K rig instead of stock fan. Just weird that header did make a fan spin but I guess it wasn't putting out 12volts I'm guessing the storm surge did that. Anyways long story solution if this ever happens to anyone. I should of checked the header with a multimeter and saved me the grief. : )
