Hi TH Community!

However this is my first post, I've been following the forum for the last year and a half, but if I've missed the category it's due to my newbieness.

Today when I`ve got home I've faced the following issue: my flatmate wanted to use my pc and it made a popping sound, no sign of function afterwards. After pressing space to resume from sleep mode, it made a popping sound and wouldn't start at all. However I'm quite sure that my PSU broke, I'd still like to learn a method to be able to diagnose it myself. Normally my motherboard's status leds are lit when receiving power, but not this time, yet it's still not certain that the failure is in my PSU. I'm quite lacking tools - like a PSU tester - but I happen to have a multimeter. I also know about the short circuiting method but I'm not certain about the exact pins to short circuit and I don't want to experiment blindly. What would you guys suggest? Which pins should I start metering and/or short circuit? Is there any other way besides a factory tester - and a friend with a PSU - to check if my PSU is broken (Corsair CX500M)? I'd like to add that my system is quite new. The first time I booted it up was in April 2013. Thanks for your help in advance!
